Telekom Austria Group has posted a 9.9% increase in first-quarter revenues to EUR1.26 billion (USD1.95 billion) thanks to a strong performance from its international operations and the consolidation of new subsidiaries in Belarus and Austria. EBITDA grew by 4.7% to EUR498.6 million, while net income fell by 11.9% to EUR129.7 million, mainly due to higher interest expenses following the acquisition of MDC in Belarus. In its domestic market the firm has managed to reduce the number of fixed access line losses, with 32,400 disconnections in the first quarter of 2008 compared with almost double that figure in the year-ago period; there were 2.4 million fixed lines in service at the end of March. Broadband subscriber numbers increased 13.3% year-on-year to 817,600. Telekom Austria’s cellular operations claimed 15.87 million subscribers at the end of the first quarter, up from 10.56 million a year earlier. This included 4.1 million in Austria, 5.06 million in Bulgaria, 3.23 million in Belarus and 2.2 million in Croatia.
