Call for Applications for 70 Croatian Translators in EU Institutions in June

As was announced at today's press conference by Annika Wallén, Head of Unit in DG Translation and Anders Bock, who will be in charge of the European Commission's translation field office in Croatia which will be established in Zagreb later this year, EU institutions will hire 70 Croatian translators in order to prepare for Croatia's accession to the European Union on 1 July 2013.

Wallén and Bock also announced a call for applications of the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) for hiring of Croatian translators. Applications can be submitted from 21 June to 24 July 2012. Information on the call for applications will be announced on www.eu-careers.eu. Candidates must have any university degree, excellent knowledge of Croatian language, very good knowledge of English, German or French languages plus another official language. The first phase of testing includes computer tests that will take place in EPSO test centres throughout Europe, including Croatia. The candidates with the best results will be invited to Brussels for additional testing, when their translating and other skills will be tested. Those who will be hired will work as full-time EU employees in Brussels or Luxembourg.

'The European Commission's Directorate General for Translation is one of the world’s largest translation organisations. With a staff of around 2,500 based in Brussels and Luxembourg, as well as in outposts in most European capitals, it translates draft legislation and other political documents that the Commission needs for its work. In 2011, DG Translation translated a total of 2.11 million pages', said Wallén.
